Judo, one of the most popular sports in the world, is an exciting grappling sport similar to wrestling, but unlike wrestling, the competitors wear thick jackets called judogis or gis. The gi allows for different tactical approaches for the judo athlete when compared to wrestling, and some say judo is more technically oriented as a result of this difference. Nonetheless, judo athletes rely heavily on strength and conditioning to ensure success. Every judo coach should be aware of this, and should work closely with strength and conditioning coaches to develop an appropriate strength and conditioning program for their athletes.
